No, the school director doesn't know anything about deaf. She can't communicate with us.

No confidence at all! First of all, she can’t communicate with the deaf children nor deaf staff directly. She depends on an interpreter at all times. Plus she does not have any deaf education background. She says she has an open door policy. I don’t know what it takes for a person to realize that she doesn’t really. It is almost three years; some deaf people had met with her in the past but have stopped. Doesn’t she realize that? I don’t think so. See any deaf children or deaf staff can’t just walk in to talk to her spontaneously because she’ll have to run and get an interpreter! Then again, be lucky to a deaf person, the interpreter may not be able to read sign language well.

She enters a school for the deaf where all children use sign language and there’re some deaf staff and faculty. The children have special needs and learn very differently than the hearing children. How in the world can one come in and think she can run the school without a true communication among the children and staff or have the knowledge of deaf education! She thinks she can do better than all the people who have dedicated to NCSD in years past and present. They have gone to get education about the deaf and how the children learn. They have worked hard to learn the sign language and mingle with the deaf, both on campus and off-campus.

Analogy: Would Donald Trump hire a person who has no or very little knowledge in running the business? I think not! He wants the top notch manager who knows the business, has the personality that would hold the employees together, and be willing to listen to the employees and makes some changes.

On and on, she should have been the deaf children and deaf staff’s advocate. And she is not!

The title "School Director" insinuates she is directing and/or guiding our students, staff and facuilty members. What about her actions shows she has given any direction? NONE!

If she is not able to communicate effectively how is she "Directing"?

If she allows non signers to attempt to teach our signing students, has she not failed them?

If a teacher is willing to learn ASL thats GREAT! But, they cannot be allowed to learn on our students' time. They have to walk into the interview room armed with ASL if they want to work with Deaf children. Can the "Director" not see that while teachers are learning to sign, our students are paying the price? Why is that so hard to see?

If she does not allow Deaf staffs to provide feedback, has she not failed them?

There are Deaf staff working at NCSD that do have Deaf Education background. LISTEN to those staff! There are Deaf staff who have lived in the dorms, they know what its like. LISTEN to those staff!

If she passes an upset student in the hallway and cannot ask what's wrong, has she not failed them?

Obviously the list can go on and on. NCSD has to change from the top down. The so-called "Director" must make a change in herself or gracefully bow out and allow someone that knows how to educate the Deaf to come in and save NCSD.

We must do something about the school director and the dorm director!!! They are trying to change the name from NCSD to Broughton Hospital for Children. We all must work together and protest til we get what we want! This school is falling apart. It looks like we won't have football team this year because there are not enough students. There are plenty of smart deaf children out there that could be happy at NCSD if we change the way it used to be! NCSD used to be a wonderful school where everyone is proud to say "I graduated from NCSD". The school director is worried about trees! She needs to stop worry and talk about trees and start focus on her sign language skills if she wants to keep this JOB!
Let's all walk out and protest til we get school director with deaf education background. Let's Do It!!!
